Prestatyn keeper Dunt honoured

ONE of the biggest heroes from Prestatyn Town’s first season in the Welsh Premier League has won an award befitting his talents.

Goalkeeper Jon Dunt was named Players’ Player of the Year at the club’s annual presentation evening.

Dunt, who saved five penalties during the campaign, won numerous admirers for a series of accomplished performances between the posts for the Seasiders, who struggled against relegation after a promising start to the season but managed to survive.

Michael Parker, a classy midfielder whose goals tally reached double figures, was chosen as Managers’ Player of the Year, while the Committee’s Player went to defender Dave Hayes.

Karl Murray, a teenage front man who appeared regularly as a substitute and scored his debut WPL goal against Welsh Cup winners Bangor City, landed the Most Improved Player accolade.

Meanwhile, Prestatyn player manager Neil Gibson will have a new assistant next season.

He is Gus Williams, a football development officer on Anglesey, who arrives from Cymru Alliance club Llangefni Town.

Williams will fill a coach/assistant’s role at Prestatyn. He took charge of Llangefni in their one and only season in the Welsh Premier and narrowly failed to save them from the drop.

Last season he led Cefni to third place in the Cymru Alliance.
