Ian Gibson swept to a 21-3 triumph to land hosts St Asaph A a memorable 11-3 win over formidable leaders Beaumaris A in their North Wales Coast League Section A clash.
Meanwhile in contrast, Section B promotion hopefuls Dyserth A were on the wrong side of a 9-5 blow at Conwy, but Denbigh A were unlucky to be edged out 8-6 at Minydon Park where best winner Ian Tibbetts 21-10 took them close.
Highbury were also involved in a tight 8-6 finish in their Section C derby tussle with Copperfields where consistent Bob Handley 21-10 again headed the home returns.
Denbigh B raced to a 12-2 victory over Penmaenmawr B to lift their hopes in Section D and not far behind were Kinmel Bay who floored St Asaph B 11-3 with the help of Paul Rogers 21-9.
l SUNNY Rhyl sank former champions Llay 7-3 at the Botanical Gardens to move up to third place above their Wrexham rivals in the Welsh Counties Super League title race.
Consistent winners Chris Rimmer 21-6 and Kris Charlton 21-7 once again steered the seasiders to a 148-130 aggregate win, supported by Jason Jones 21-17, Trevor Heath 21-18 and skipper Paul Walley 21-19. Making a welcome return debut after a spell away was Steve Hipwell who was unable to mark his comeback with a win, going down 21-10 while Neale Charlton lost 21-18 and David Trickett 21-15.
St Asaph were even bigger winners, routing Deganwy Roofing 9-1 in a clear-cut 162-118 aggregate split. Martin Foster 21-11, Gareth Foster 21-12 and Lewis Scott, Ian Gibson and Scott Parry all 21-13 winners, piled on the agony to lift Saints up to joint fourth place.
