WELSH PREMIER LEAGUE
IT is now eight matches without a win for Prestatyn who also lost their proud unbeaten home record on Saturday in disappointing fashion.
Now just two points off the relegation places, the Seasiders can at least enjoy a welcome distraction from their league woes this Saturday when they entertain Goytre United in the Welsh Cup fourth round (2pm).
Goytre are currently third in Welsh League Division One, but look like potential champions, lying just three points behind the leaders with four games in hand.
And this weekend’s visitors to Bastion Road certainly have advice close at hand as the village lies very close to Port Talbot, who won 3-0 at Prestatyn on Saturday.
The hosts had the first real chance when Steve Bowes’ first-time strike was well blocked by the Port defence who were rock solid all game.
Dan Evans produced a good run on 26 minutes but sadly the end product was a moderate shot keeper Kristian Rogers dealt with easily.
The game needed a goal and it arrived for the visitors on 29 minutes. Keeper Jon Dunt came to meet a Darren Davies free-kick, but Matthew Rees nipped in first to score with a towering header.
It was almost 2-0 when Liam McCreesh’s volley cannoned off the bar and into the grateful arms of Dunt.
Prestatyn started to show some promise towards the end of the first half and their most exciting moment of the afternoon saw Ian Griffiths’s 20-yarder thunder against the crossbar with Rogers well beaten.
The second half was a total non-event as far as the hosts were concerned.
Talbot made it 2-0 on 53 minutes when a weak header from an under pressure Bevan Humphreys was never going to reach Dunt and the predatory Martin Rose pounced for an easy finish.
The Steelmen always looked capable of a third and it arrived on 86 minutes, Rose heading home a McCreesh lob.
PTFC would remind supporters that season tickets are not valid for Saturday’s Welsh Cup match with Goytre. All spectators must pay at the gate.
