Rugby Union: Dinbych 2nds lose grip on lead

SHOTTON STEEL 19 DINBYCH 2NDS 14

NORTH EAST WALES RUGBY UNION LEAGUE

DEFEAT at Shotton in a gritty contest meant Dinbych lost their place at the top of the North East Wales table.

Due to the weather and Christmas interval, the Vale side had not played for five weeks and this was evident in the raggedness of some of the play.

The Steelmen took the lead with a try but two Nick Ardrey penalties before the break gave the visitors a slender interval advantage.

After the changearound, Dinbych started brightly and another Ardrey three-pointer extended the lead, but the visiting efforts then faded and a series of errors allowed the hosts a second try, which was converted.

With 15 minutes left an improved Shotton score made it 19-9 and this killed Dinbych off, although they did reply with a bulldozing try from number eight Kimi Evans from the final play.
