Football: Prestatyn Town FC reserves battle back but weather wins

PRESTATYN Town Reserves battled back from 3-1 down to make it 3-3 at Llanrug United only for their Barritt Cup round two tie to be abandoned after 79 minutes due to heavy rain and high winds at Eithin Duon.

David Noel Williams handed the Welsh Alliance hosts a 26th minute lead, but Paul Jenkins equalised five minutes before the break.

When Williams and Gavin Edwards put the Caernarfon area side two goals to the good midway through the second half it looked grim for the Clwyd League champions, but Ross Hannen (70) and Ashley Bamber (76) squared the tie before the elements caused an early and inconclusive finish.

Llandyrnog United Reserves lost 3-2 at home to Abergele Rovers while Llansannan enjoyed an impressive 3-1 success over Flint, Emyr Owen and Gareth Lewis (2) on target.

In the Mackenzie Jones Clwyd League Premier Division, Rhuddlan Town continued their climb away from the basement with a 3-1 beating of Denbigh Town Reserves, Sion Burrows and John Ridings (2) hitting the goals.

In division one, Gareth Hughes, Meirion Edwards and Greg Lewis secured Y Glannau a 3-1 outcome at Abergele Rovers Reserves, Cerrigydrudion went down 3-0 at home to Glan Conwy and Point of Ayr crashed 2-0 to Gap Connah’s Quay Reserves at Ffynnongroyw.

Adam Cassidy’s hat-trick put him on 25 goals for the season as St Asaph overcame Meliden 7-3 in division two, Duncan Midgley (2), Sam Benbow and Matthew Quinny adding further strikes for Saints, Chris Owen, Scott Longley and Ben Edwards replying for the Villagers.

Simon Jones’ double and a Dilwyn Roberts single earned Llannefydd a 3-0 outcome at Aston Park 3rds but Bro Cernyw were whipped 5-1 at leaders Mostyn Dragons.
