LLANDYRNOG UNITED 2 RUTHIN TOWN 3
CYMRU ALLIANCE LEAGUE
FOURTH-placed Ruthin completed the double over bottom side Llandyrnog after winning a close-fought Boxing Day derby at Cae Nant.
Town took a fifth minute lead when Mike Robinson met a Liam Jones corner to fire home.
Tom Sharples levelled on 20 minutes after a slip by the Ruthin keeper presented him with a tap in but the visitors were ahead again six minutes into the second half when Liam Jones riffled home from 20 yards.
Mike Garrod almost did the same 10 minutes later when he forced a good save from Arwel Hughes in the Dyrny goal.
Sion Roberts seemed to have made the game safe for Ruthin with an 85th minute strike but Neil Davies set up a tense finish with a close range effort two minutes later.
Llandyrnog remain without a win in 18 attempts but they might fancy their chances of breaking their duck this Saturday when fellow strugglers Guilsfield visit Cae Nant.
Ruthin will finish this weekend no lower than fourth after their visit to a Mynydd Isa side beaten just once at home all season, while Denbigh will be hopeful of moving up the table when they entertain lowly Gresford.
