Rugby League: Rhyl lads play part in Welsh triumph

SIX Rhyl players featured in the Wales rugby league under-18s squad which were recently crowned European champions.

Tom Beaumont, Dale Blackmore, Ian Marshall, Sam Powell, Rhys Williams and Kriss Wilkes were part of the magnificent triumph in Prague in the Czech Republic.

Wales were seeded fourth in the tournament behind France, England and Ireland with Scotland, Russia, Serbia and the hosts making up the teams in the event which is held every two years.

The Welsh saw off a game Czech side in the quarter-finals before defeating favourites England in the semis 40-24.

In the final Wales played some of their best stuff and ran out 38-24 winners against France to make history by becoming the first Welsh side at any level to land a European title at rugby league.
