Football: Lawmen end Llandyrnog United FC’s four match streak

LLANDYRNOG UNITED 1 LEX XI 3

CYMRU ALLIANCE

LLANDYRNOG United’s four-match winning sequence at Lex XI came to an end when the revitalised Wrexham side triumphed 3-1 at Stansty Park to stay unbeaten in the league this season.

The best chance of the first half fell to the visitors when Dan Roberts hit a deep free-kick which returning Neil Davies nodded back to the six-yard area but Elfyn Roberts mistimed his header with the goal at his mercy.

Lex started the second half a lot sharper and took the lead on 64 minutes when Gareth Roberts picked up a loose ball on halfway and curled an excellent shot from the edge of the box which went in off the post.

Five minutes later he and Lex had a second when a free-kick from Andrews was pushed onto the bar by keeper Arwel Hughes and Roberts following up scored after a scramble.

Llandyrnog came back strongly and had their best period of the game. After 72 minutes they got a goal back when a good cross from Tom Evans on the left was headed out to the edge of the box and Geraint Jones scored with a fine shot. The same player almost added another but scraped the bar.

Tom Sharples had a volley blocked on the six-yard line but as Dyrny pressed for the equaliser they were caught napping.

Ten minutes from time after a needless free-kick was conceded wide on the right, Paul Griffiths finished with great aplomb to make it 3-1. Dyrny stay pointless and bottom.

RUTHIN Town went down 2-1 at Buckley Town. Mitchell Booth scored the first for Bucks with a 45 minute piledriver that gave the keeper no chance. The second was a well-taken volley, direct from a left-sided corner on 48 minutes from Miles Todd.

Lennox Beddows’ 87th minute penalty was all Ruthin had to show from a game in which they were second best.

DENBIGH Town lost 1-0 at Flint Town United. The only goal of the match was scored by Robbie Chesters on 12 minutes.
