NORTH WALES LEAGUE DIVISION ONE

RHEWL WINNING DRAW 11-5

JON Eccles’ typically inspirational 66 helped Rhewl set a good score on Saturday but the Vale of Clwyd villagers had to settle for a winning draw against their seaside opponents.

Put into bat, Eccles and Chris Campbell concocted 76 in 26 overs for the first wicket before Campbell was caught for 40.

Some good supporting runs from Alex Gill (22) and Nigel Morewood (13 not out) allowed Rhewl to declare on 171 for seven after 48 overs, spinner Ajay Dhawan four for 46 for the visitors.

The experienced Rhewl attack kept the visiting batsmen under control, their innings closing on 117 for eight from 52 overs.

Campbell finished with two for 19 from 11 overs, Rob Eccles a miserly two for 10 off 13 and Jon Eccles three for 29.

After the game Rhewl skipper Gareth Morewood said: "Obviously we are again disappointed that we couldn’t manage the victory, especially when we dominated the game overall. But another solid performance sees us comfortably placed with an eye to finishing in the top five at the end of the season."

Rhewl visit Gresford this Saturday.
