Football: Rhyl FC look to recover from first defeat

RHYL will be anxious to bounce back from their first defeat in 26 league games when they travel to lowly Elements Cefn Druids on Friday night (7.30pm).

The Welsh Premier leaders saw their proud record end on Saturday with a 2-0 defeat at Neath, but will view their trip to Plaskynaston as an ideal opportunity to build another winning run.

The champions had their lead at the top cut to two points, but manager Greg Strong believes in his players' ability to bounce back.

"Our players have established a winning mentality," said the Rhyl player boss after the game.

"There are people in that dressing room who don't like what's happened and they will come back doubly determined to prove a few people wrong."

Neath started the better and Lilies keeper James Coates was forced to make a fine diving save from a fierce Ashley Evans strike.

It was no great surprise when the Eagles took a 12th minute lead when Stephen Pockett side-footed home from eight yards.

Eight minutes into the second half Evans provided the cross for Craig Steins to head in powerfully via the crossbar.

Scoring chances were virtually non-existent on a rare off-day for the title holders, sub Matthew Williams going closest.
