Football: Hitman Hunt rejoins league champions Rhyl FC

STRIKER Lee Hunt has rejoined Welsh Premier League champions Rhyl.

Disillusioned with the treatment he was receiving from WPL referees, Hunt quit the Lilywhites before the start of last season to join Blue Square Premier outfit Barrow, but the move flopped with the Liverpool-born front man being loaned out to Fleetwood Town and Droylsden during the campaign.

Hunt was released by Barrow chief Dave Bayliss last month after netting just two goals in 18 appearances and now returns to Belle Vue where he scored 113 times in 164 competitive starts over four and a half seasons.

Despite his excellent scoring record at Rhyl, where he was top marksman four seasons in a row, Hunt’s discipline often let him down, but head coach Allan Bickerstaff insists it will be a different story this season.

“Lee starts with a clean slate,” said Bickerstaff.

“He’s a player I’ve admired for a long time; he’s a fantastic competitor and will be an excellent acquisition for the club. He’ll have a massive role to play in the season ahead.”

Hunt joins former TNS duo John Leah and Martyn Naylor as the new faces at Belle Vue this summer, with so far Craig Jones, Jamie Reed, Josh Johnson, Chris Roberts, Carl Owen, Paul O’Neill, Gareth Wilson and Michael Jones having left the club.
