NINE-MAN Denbigh heroically held out for a share of the honours against their high-flying Vale of Clwyd rivals at the Memorial Fields on Saturday.
The visitors were reduced to 10 players after 24 minutes when striker Calvin Davies was red-carded for foul and abusive language and 13 minutes into the second half, midfielder Kevin Evans also received his marching orders for retaliation.
“We had no qualms about the sendings-off but the constant decisions which went against us were very frustrating,” said Denbigh boss Tim Dyer.
“It was a point gained in the end. To play for over half an hour with nine men and still come away with a result says a lot about our character.
“Until the second sending off we were the better side; Ruthin did put us under some pressure then but it was only quite late on that our keeper Jamie Hulse was forced to make two great saves from his brother Simon and Ben Collins.”
And Denbigh had their attacking moments too. In the 55th minute Ian Evans drilled across the six-yard box but neither Mark Orme or Tony Davies at the back post could get a finishing touch.
And on 70 minutes Kenny Burgess also brought a fine stop out of Ruthin’s young keeper Richard Parry.
