WELSH ALLIANCE LEAGUE

A BIGGEST win of the season ensured Rhyl remain eight points clear at the top of the Welsh Alliance.

This was Jon Stazicker’s side’s fifth straight victory and seventh in eight starts.

“The attitude and performance of the team at the moment is outstanding,” said Stazicker. “The football we are playing is of the highest quality and I’m so proud.”

Matthew Williams, building up his fitness for the first team, struck the woodwork twice before James Hay drove in the opener from the edge of the box.

Three minutes later Scott Millington’s cross was headed in by Chris Roberts to make it 2-0. Millington’s first time shot from a Tom Patel centre stretched the home lead in the 23rd minute, then Williams rattled the bar.

When Millington’s shot was handled on the line by Gerallt Jones – who somehow avoided a red card – a penalty was awarded but Wilson’s kick hit the post.

The fourth goal was just around the corner, though, a solo run from Gareth Hughes setting up Williams to score and make it 4-0 at the interval.

Five minutes into the second period the in-form Jack Roberts scored with a tremendous 25-yard free-kick which gave the keeper no chance.

It was not long before top marksman Mike Roose got in on the act. With 55 minutes on the clock, second half substitute Roose showed great skill to flick the ball past a defender and finish with style to deliver the half dozen.

Joe Ahern’s cross was converted at by Roose in the 68th minute to bring the scorer his ninth of the campaign.

Ten minutes from time substitute Craig Griffiths headed in Millington’s cross and it should have been double figures before the end.
