Football: Prestatyn Town boss seeks new faces

WELSH PREMIER LEAGUE

THREE new signings could be on their way to Prestatyn before this weekend’s transfer deadline.

Player manager Neil Gibson is in talks with a utility player, striker and midfielder as he bids to strengthen his squad for what is shaping into a hard debut campaign in the Welsh Premier.

Although Town have made a respectable start in their new league, taking five points from five matches, Gibson has only added a couple of players to the squad which won the Cymru Alliance last term and believes added experience is needed.

“We will be actively talking to three players this week who we hope to bring into the squad before Sunday’s deadline,” said Gibson.

“I’m quite pleased on reflection how things have gone so far, but if we could have turned the (early season) Welshpool draw into a win, I think we’d be sitting in the top half now and that would be a more fair reflection on how we’ve performed in our first five games.”

The Seasiders were indebted to Mike Parker’s 89th minute equaliser at Latham Park on Saturday earning them a first away point of the season.

“The performance was a big improvement on the Port Talbot defeat the week before,” added Gibson.

“I asked for certain things from the players and they produced it. If we’d taken our chances we could have grabbed a win, but overall I thought 1-1 was a fair result.”

Gibson is optimistic the next two games at home to struggling Caernarfon Town (Friday) and NEWI Cefn Druids (Tuesday) can put some points in the bank.

“All we’re missing is a bit of confidence which comes from not winning for a while, but if we can beat Caernarfon we can really kick on,” he said.
