Football: Impressive start for Llandyrnog reserves

LLANDYRNOG United Reserves kicked off the 2008/09 Mackenzie Jones Clwyd League Premier Division season with a very impressive 3-1 win at Penmaenmawr Phoenix.

Liam Jones (42 and 66 minutes) and Emyr Jones (88) sealed the points for Dyrny, Peter Williams having drawn Pen level at one stage.

Not such a good start for Denbigh Town Reserves who were hammered 5-1 at premier new boys Brynford United, Matt Toole notching their consolation.

In division one, Cerrigydrudion went down 4-1 at home to promoted Prestatyn Town 3rds, Owain Roberts the sole hosts scorer in a game where all the goals came in the first half.

Llannefydd were in dominant form, thrashing Caerwys Reserves 5-1. Simon Jones (2), Dewi Jones, Aled Jones and Gareth Roberts were on the mark for the home team, Neil Greenhough responding.

Adam Cassidy bagged five goals for St Asaph – the biggest individual tally of the day – in their 7-0 cakewalk at Wepre Rangers.

The season started early for Caerwys last Wednesday (August 13) and they were very satisfied after winning a thriller at Aston Park Rangers Reserves 5-4.

John Griffiths and Mike Pooley bagged a brace apiece for the visitors in this division one clash, Lee Jones having started off the scoring in the 17th minute. Pooley plundered the 81st minute decider.
