Bowls: Sunny Rhyl sharpen the honour quest

SUNNY Rhyl sharpened their quest for the Welsh Counties Super League title with a resounding 8-2 victory over rival hopefuls Beaumaris at the Botanical Gardens.

The seasiders finished 160-122 clear on the aggregate to move into joint second place in the table. Top block was undefeated Chris Rimmer who routed Barry Harris 21-7 while his skipper Paul Walley toppled John Short 21-15. Neale Charlton 21-11 and Jason Jones 21-13 also impressed along with recent signing from St Asaph David Trickett who carded 21-15.

Trevor Heath emrged a 21-19 winner while Rhyl’s only pair to miss out were recent arrival Dylan Pritchard and Kris Charlton who both fell 17-21.

St Asaph pushed tough opponents Llay hard before falling 6-4, losing the tight aggregate 149-154, after finishing level 4-4 on individual matches. Steve Dace and Gareth Wilson both won 21-17 with Ian Gibson and Rob Pierce settling for 21-18 margins.
