THERE were mixed fortunes for Prestatyn Running Club’s men at the weekend when they again turned out in strength for the fourth and penultimate fixture of the Grand Prix Express North Wales Cross-Country League in Wrexham.
Although Bangor University and Menai, their main challengers for promotion to division one, were both hugely under-strength, Maldwyn Harriers, boosted by the first appearance of the season of Welsh internationals Andi and Tim Davies, who came second and fourth respectively, won the division two competition by a huge margin and now lead the section.
The next day Four Villages half-marathon deprived the ladies’ team of some members but the five who turned out gave their usual very solid all-round performance, leaving them third in division two with one race left.
Placings – Men: 39 Gordon Jones 34.37, 44 Chris Kelly 34.53, 57 Matt Sims 36.09, 60 George Nicholls 36.14, 62 George Nixon 36.23 (2nd M55), 66 Dave Henley 36.46, 91 Dean Longley 38.18, 113 Paul Brandrick 40.28, 128 Gareth Hughes 42.04, 139 Steve Hatfield 43.35.
