Running: Fantastic five tackle a tough double header for Prestatyn

MEMBERS of Prestatyn Running Club did themselves, their club and North Wales proud at the weekend in another show of loyalty and determined effort.

Five of them competed twice in less than 24 hours and with considerable success on both occasions.

In Saturday’s Welsh Masters’ Cross-Country Championships in Wrexham, George Nixon failed by just a few seconds to retain his M55 title, while debutant George Nicholls turned in a gutsy performance in the M35 and senior men’s race.

Brenda Tiedtke and Gay Waring represented the region’s L45+ team in the Welsh Inter-Regional Championships in Wrexham.

Injury prevented club captain Glenda Davies from completing a trio in the class, while Shelley Ward, Eleri Goddard and Tracy Colligan participated at L35. At the time of going to press the final results had still not been published so it is possible there could be team and individual awards on the way.

The following day Gordon Jones led the squad home in the third Borders Road-Running League fixture at Mold, finishing 27th overall and third M50.

The men again finished fourth in division one and the ladies sixth, while the veterans were a brilliant third out of 15 teams.
