First half goals get season off to a win
RUTHIN 2 NEWTOWN 0
NORTH WALES WOMEN’S HOCKEY LEAGUE DIVISION ONE
FIRST half goals from Catherine Morris and Hannah O’Brien ensured Ruthin started the season in great style with victory over champions Newtown.
Saturday’s curtain raiser at Denbigh saw the Vale side, which contained several youngsters, produce a fine all-round performance.
Player of the Match for the hosts was Sian Edwards while goalkeeper Rosie Miller proved very impressive.
Although last season’s title winners came on stronger in the second half, the Ruthin defence was solid as a rock.
There was not such good fortune for Ruthin on Sunday when they went down 1-0 to Wrexham in the Welsh Shield first round.
The Vale ladies deserved better for their efforts, two disallowed goals adding to the feeling of injustice in the home camp.
This Saturday Ruthin are involved in knockout competition again when they take on Caernarfon in the first round of the North Wales League Cup, push-back 10.15am at Ysgol Glan Clwyd, St Asaph.
