Cycling: Charity races at Prestatyn

BIG-TIME bike racing returns to Prestatyn Promenade this Sunday with charity races in aid of RoadPeace, the UK national charity for road crash victims and their families.

Three races for all ages start on the traffic-free Beach Road East/Promenade circuit for two hours at 5pm and has been supported by Beaches Hotel, Prestatyn Town Council, Denbighshire County Council and Woods Motorcycles (Abergele) plus other local businesses.

Two riders hoping to do well in Rhyl CC colours at Prestatyn are reaching top form in the run-up.

Gwyn Lovibond beat 30 other under-12 racers to win at the Shrewsbury Circuit Race meeting on Saturday, heading a leading breakaway of seven in over the line, one bike ahead of Joe Webb (Mid-Shropshire Wheelers) and third-placed Danny Fox (Solihull CC).

Conan Mayman again unleashed a powerful sprint finish to take second place in the final round of the CDNW series at Bashall Eaves, Lancashire.

Unfortunately Malton Wheelers rider Gareth Taylor had slipped away from the main group to win by 11 seconds over the Ruthin bike shop owner after an enterprising late attack.
