Rugby Union: Ten tries for Rhyl in fine victory

RHYL 2NDS 56 CORWEN 10

AN excellent display from 10-try Rhyl at a wet and muddy Waen.

With the pack rampant and supportive the ball was offloaded in contact many times to keep the hosts’ momentum going.

The back division, marshalled well by half-backs Keith Jones and John Hall, took advantage of some slack marking to create space in the Corwen midfield, the first try coming from full-back Keith Gains. Corwen replied with a fine solo score, but tries from Tim Davies and Geezer Davies put Rhyl ahead.

The home side cut loose in the second half with Aiden Renwick, Mikey Hall and Jim Edwards all scoring two apiece before Gains completed the afternoon’s scoring with a last minute try. In difficult kicking conditions Gains slotted over three conversions.
