Rugby Union: Five try spree sees Ruthin romp home

FIVE tries from the visitors earned them a welcome bonus point which keeps them on the tails of Division One North top two Nant Conwy and Caernarfon.

Ruthin were not taking this game lightly knowing Dolgellau are always a difficult team to play at home and that they were winning at Mold until the match was abandoned in the second half last week.

The Cae Ddol outfit had not played since early November but started strongly with fly-half Adam Robson kicking two penalties.

Flanker Clwyd Jones put Ruthin 11-0 ahead shortly afterwards with a try following a 20-metre run through the defence.

Down to 14 men after their flanker was sin-binned, Dol conceded another try when number eight Chris Davies went over and Robson converted.

A brilliant individual effort by full-back Gethin Hughes, who ran the length of the field to score, made it 25-0 at half-time.

After the break Dolgellau came out strongly and after 15 minutes Ruthin found themselves down to 13 with two players sin-binned.

Dolgellau managed one try, but were unable to take further advantage and a return to full strength saw Ruthin dominate again.

Hooker Gary Teeson led a drive over the line from a Ruthin lineout and after a great scrum wing Kyle Davies crossed for the last away try.
