SWALEC DIVISION TWO NORTH
IN stark contrast to the open rugby played by Rhyl last week, Saturday saw them giving away a stone a man in the pack to a strong and experienced Rhos side.
This told in the early exchanges and a pushover try by the Rhos pack was converted to give the home side a 7-0 lead.
This score stung Rhyl and as the half wore on, their pack began to gain parity in the tight exchanges.
Before the break wing Jim Edwards was held up short of the line but Shaks Ngwenya pounced for a converted try to make it 7-7 at the break.
Rhyl started the second half brightly and a quickly taken penalty by scrum-half Barry Picton fed Ngwenya who burst through for a second improved score.
The hosts equalised but then the most fluid move of the match resulted in Edwards crashing over in the corner, then Mike Atkinson added a penalty to seal the points despite Rhos replying with a late try.
This Saturday Rhyl host national division three club Nantyffyllon at Y Waen in the opening round of the Swalec Cup, kick-off at 2.30pm.

CLWYD RUGBY UNION CUP
DESPITE fielding a strong side in this cup match against senior division opposition including perhaps the biggest pack Rhyl has put out in the seconds for many years, the game will be remembered as one of chances missed.
The Rhyl pack dominated at all facets of tight play and were rewarded with a try for Dylan Jones, the flanker driving from the base of ruck to score. John Hall added the conversion.
However, for all the possession and territory, Rhyl were unable to respond to the sharper and well- organised Mold back line who led 17-7 at the break and added a further four converted tries in the second stanza.
Rhyl Seconds entertain Colwyn Bay in a league fixture at Y Waen this Saturday (2.30pm).
