Rugby Union: Denbigh 2nds have a lot to do in cup

WREXHAM 2NDS 37 DINBYCH 2NDS 27

CLWYD RUGBY UNION CUP FIRST LEG

SHOWING seven enforced changes from the previous week Dinbych found themselves out-muscled by a heavier Wrexham pack and ultimately crashed to defeat.

David Perkins kicked an early penalty for the visitors, but Wrexham hit back with two tries, a penalty and conversion. Fly-half Dan Mars-Jones replied for Dinbych with a fine try which Perkins improved to cut the deficit to 15-10 at the break.

First blood in the second half went to Wrexham before full-back George Owen’s pace brought the visitors an unconverted score. From here, however, the hosts built a decisive 32-15 lead.

Mars-Jones broke through three tackles for an excellent individual try, Perkins converting, but the home team then added a crucial touchdown.

To Dinbych’s credit they refused to give up and a quick tap and burst from scrum-half Phil Morris brought an unconverted try to bring the score to 37-27 and which may yet prove vital.

The teams meet in the second leg at Caeau Les Phillips on October 18.
