Rugby Union: Mold edge out Dinbych in warm up

IN the run-up to the new season, two friendly games were played at Clwb Rygbi Dinbych last Saturday with the first XV playing Mold in a very competitive warm-up and the seconds involved in an equally no-holds-barred affair against Menai Bridge.

The positive aspect of the firsts’ narrow 10-7 loss was the youthful look of the Dinbych side.

With the exception of Llion Edwards all the backs were under 21 and none played better than fly-half Sion Rowlands who was a thorn in the opposition’s side throughout and scored all Dinbych’s points with a try and conversion.

There was a more familiar look to the seconds with the usual blend of youth and experience. This too was an intense contest and a credit to both teams who counter-attacked at every opportunity and showed a high level of fitness.

Whereas Dinbych tended to squander good ball provided by the forwards, Menai Bridge took the fewer chances they had to score four tries and two conversions in their 24-21 win.

Dinbych scorers were Ywain Howatson, a brace of tries for Geraint Davies and David Perkins, who converted three touchdowns.
