Football: Denbigh Diamonds' great win over Corwen

DENBIGH DIAMONDS UNDER-15s 6 CORWEN GIRLS UNDER-15s 1

DIAMONDS dominated a hard fought contest to record a convincing 6-1 win over newcomers Corwen.

Anona Smith-Davies registered first on four minutes with an effort from distance and Denbigh doubled their tally moments later when Lowri Davies met a corner on the volley and the ball slammed home via a post.

If Denbigh thought it was all over, they were wrong. Good pressure from the visitors forced Diamonds keeper Hannah Cumpston-Jones into action on the stroke of half-time, her bravery stopping an almost certain goal from a busy Alice Davies.

Corwen continued to pressure a solid-looking Diamonds back line in the opening salvoes of the second stanza, and were eventually rewarded when danger girl Davies ran onto a through ball and planted home.

The eager Chantelle Barker made it 3-1 to give her side breathing space and it was now all Denbigh as the home side surged forward.

Paige Morris began to run riot across the midfield, and one burst set up Barker who grabbed her second and Denbigh’s fourth.

Morris added the nap with a 20-yard spanker that bulged the top corner.

Davies went close twice for the visitors, but the last word went to Morris who lashed home the sixth from long range.

PLAYER of the match Alicia Davies-Smith sealed victory for Denbigh with a fabulous second half hat-trick.

In a game which saw Diamonds take an early lead with a well executed goal from Alaw Davies-Smith, the visitors proved no pushover as they equalised shortly after though Alice Davies.

The Corwen girl quickly added another and although Denbigh levelled it was 3-2 to the Edeyrnion femmes at half time.

The second half was dominated by Diamonds with Alicia Davies-Smith scoring a wonderful trio. Defensively Danielle Williams was outstanding, tirelessly charging down the ball all over the pitch and helping her team mates secure the win.
