PRESTATYN WIN 25-6

IMPRESSIVE Prestatyn rounded off their debut season in the Premier Division in some style with a 59-run win over established top flighters Northern which secured them ninth place.

Already assured of their safety before Saturday’s encounter at Beach Close, Prestatyn won the toss and batted, setting a formidable 231 for six declared off 50.5 overs.

Skipper Morne Williams led the way with 57 while Glamorgan all-rounder Will Owen weighed in with a useful 50. Gareth Van Heerden (35) and Ali Taylor (34) also helped a fine total be reached. Northern put up a good battle in reply before eventually being bowled out for 172 in 34.4 overs, Greg Phillips posting 78 and James Cole 40.

With Springbok Mario Olivier having returned to South Africa, Prestatyn’s attack still delivered the goods with Richard Williams taking four for 40 and Owen three for 58, the home side collecting a 25-6 verdict.

Prestatyn 2nds were thrashed by 103 runs in their final game at Leigh.

The home side racked up 203 for five and in response Prestatyn were limited to 100 for nine, Owain Thomas 38 and skipper David Harris 37, points 25-3 to the Lancastrians.

Despite the defeat against their promoted opponents, Prestatyn still finished a very respectable fifth in Second XI Division One.
