RUTHIN 75 CONWY 76-4
NORTH WALES LEAGUE DIVISION TWO
CONWY WIN 8-2
A WEAKENED Ruthin team failed to build on the previous weekend’s fantastic win against Bersham and remain in the relegation mire.
With just one team going down to division three, the Vale side are third from bottom, eight points clear of basement boys St Asaph 2nds.
Ruthin’s fate, therefore, is still very much in their own hands with a trip to in-form Carmel to come this Saturday followed by a home fixture to end the season against St Asaph on September 13.
Last Saturday’s game saw Conwy win the toss and decide to bowl. Despite the warm weather the wicket was damp and on several occasions the ball seemed to keep low.
Wickets fell at regular intervals with eight of Ruthin’s batsmen being bowled by the accurate Conwy attack.
Shay Tudor offered the main resistance, hitting four fours and a huge six over the clubhouse in his score of 22 not out. He ran out of partners, however, as Ruthin were all out for 75, Gwern Llwyd Owain and Alun Jones both posting 14.
Conwy started their innings slowly and when Hefin Rowlands and Osian Edwards took a wicket each Ruthin saw the opportunity to take something out of the game.
Owen Hughes was brought into the attack and soon claimed two quick victims, but the experienced middle order of Conwy saw things through to the end, despite a couple of scares.
The Musselmen finished on 76 for four, winning by six wickets and eight points to two.

Ruthin 2nds game away to Menai Bridge 3rds was cancelled on Sunday due to the wet weather. Ruthin 2nds play their last match of the season this Sunday against local rivals Rhewl 2nds.
