Cricket: Cracking Rhewl win ahead of derby clash

MARCHWIEL AND WREXHAM 120 RHEWL 130-9

NORTH WALES LEAGUE DIVISION ONE

RHEWL WIN 24-5

AN amazing victory for Rhewl put them in good heart for this Saturday’s crunch local derby with Denbigh at Ruthin School (1.30pm start).

After winning the toss, returning skipper Gareth Morewood chose to bat on a relaid pitch and his side managed 130 for nine declared to secure four points, Jon Eccles a gritty 29 and Morewood 23.

Marchwiel and Wrexham began well in reply, Michael Forgrave and James Hughes putting on 44 for the first wicket before the former fell to Rob Eccles for 31.

The tight Rhewl bowling saw the home side scoring at only two runs per over and struggling at 79 for five from 40 overs.

An excellent fielding display was led by young Chris Wilsden, who took three superb outfield catches, including South African professional Mario Swart for a duck.

With a few scares near the end of the innings, Rhewl managed to keep a strong grip on the Marchwiel batting, young Alex Gill taking two for five to finish off the opposition for 120.

Simon Williams ended with two for 24 from 13 overs, Chris Campbell two for 32 and Duane Partlow two for 21.
