Police officer hit by teen at St Asaph music festival

A BRAWL at the end of a community festival was described as being “like the gunfight at the OK Corral”.

Prestatyn youth court heard that as the Party in the Park in St Asaph drew to a close on July 19 the police were called to a disturbance outside the Gamekeeper Inn where about 80 to 100 people had gathered.

Prosecutor Nita Dowell said as one police officer struggled to arrest one youth his 16-year-old friend tried to intervene.

Sgt Peter Roberts went to help and was butted in the face by the 16-year-old Rhyl schoolboy.

Ms Dowell said it was accepted the headbutt was reckless during the struggle and not a deliberate act.

The boy’s mother said he still felt his friend had been wronged. “I gather it was like the OK Corral in St Asaph that night,” she said.

The teenager admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm and a breach of the peace. The case was adjourned until November 7 for a pre-sentence report.
