RUTHIN is to star in a series of events marking Liverpool’s links with the Vale of Clwyd
A number of events are being arranged across the county to mark Clwyd’s historic connections with the city, which this year has been named as a European Capital of Culture.
"There are so many links associating Denbighshire with the city of Liverpool and the fact that Liverpool is the European Capital of Culture in 2008 gives us the perfect opportunity to celebrate those links and promote culture and tourism in Denbighshire" said Councillor David Thomas, the county council’s Lead Member for Regeneration.
Among the events being organised for the tie-in is a talk discussing the town’s scouse connection next Tuesday [September 23], hosted by the Reverend D Ben Rees. Ruthin’s newly opened Craft Centre will also play a starring role, where acclaimed textile artist Cefyn Burgess is currently hosting an art exhibition themed around the chapels of Liverpool and the Vale of Clwyd.
Liverpool lovers are also being promised a performance by The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra at St Asaph’s International Music Festival, being held this Saturday (September 20), and a Beatles photographic exhibition, being staged at Bodelwyddan Castle throughout this month.
The Merseyside city has a shared cultural heritage with the Vale, which was marked earlier this year by one of the 120 Superlambananas ‘escaping’ and making appearances at this year’s International Eisteddfod in Llangollen and Moel Famau.
