Superlambanana
MOEL FAMAU will be the scene of an exciting ascent this weekend when a Liverpool legend graces its summit as part of the city’s cultural renaissance.
One of the Superlambananas - which ‘escaped’ from the city’s European Capital of Culture celebrations and headed for the Vale - will visit the top of the Clwydian peak this Saturday (August 16), following a visit to last month’s Llangollen Eisteddfod.
"This event will be a day of celebrating our links with Liverpool European Capital of Culture, the chance to meet our very own Superlambanana as well as enjoying the beautiful scenery across the Vale of Clwyd and the Clwydian Range Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty" said Councillor David Thomas, the county council’s Cabinet Lead Member for Tourism.
The sculpture - one of 120 created for the celebrations - was decorated by youngsters when it visited the International Eisteddfod in Llangollen, having already been blessed by St Asaph bishop John S Davies.
One of three Superlambanas which have left Liverpool, the North Welsh sculpture is said to celebrate historic links the region enjoys with the Merseyside city.
Everyone is invited to take part in the walk, with event sponsors Co-op promising a free banana for the first 500 to scale the summit. A park and ride service will also be offered by a vintage Crosville bus, in scenes reminiscent of the first Liverpool - Loggerheads bus service in the 1920s.
The Big Walk event begins at 9.30am this Saturday. Anyone interested in using the park and ride service should contact 01352 810614.
