Ruthin hair salon in British Hairdressing Awards running

TOP Ruthin salon Tommy’s has snipped its way to success this week by earning its place in the finals of a prestigious national award.

The hairdressers, on Clwyd Street, showed it was at the cutting edge by reaching the highest stages of this year’s British Hairdressing Awards, and is just one of six salons vying to become the best in the Wales and South West region.

"I am really delighted to finalise for the Wales and South West category at this years British Hairdressing Awards, especially as I am the only finalist from North Wales" said Tommy Van Der Veken, the salon’s co-director.

"It is great to be recognised for the quality of your work and to be part of such a prestigious event in the hairdressing industry."

Earlier this year, Tommy and co-director Esther Prins jetted off to Hollywood after winning another accolade for their firm and winning a prize in the 2008 Global Salon Business Awards.

Tommy’s which employs 14 at its Ruthin home, is now based in its second premises in the town, after the business outgrew its original home on St Peter’s Square after Tommy set up shop there six years ago.

His salon now has a sister branch in Chester, as well as a third branch in Llandudno which is due to open next year.

As well as winning the Salon Leadership Award at the Hollywood ceremony, previous awards bagged by the business include Salon of the Year in 2006 and 2007.

The winners will be announced at the the British Hairdressing Awards at the Grosvenor House

Hotel, London on Monday 24th November 2008.
