REVELLERS in Ruthin are looking forward to seven days of fun and frolics as preparations for the area’s annual festival are finalised by organisers this week.

The Ruthin Festival, which last year attracted over 3,000 visitors to the town, starts next Monday [June 30] and has already got organisers and members of the public alike excited about the upcoming event.

"We’re really looking forward to this year’s festival " said Lowri Rees, one of the show’s organisers.

"It’s been a huge success in the years we’ve held the event so far in the past, but the standards are going up with every show."

Among the highlights promised for the week-long festival include jazz legend Jim Mullen on July 1, whose guitar skills have won him four gongs at the British Jazz Awards.

Children from the town’s schools will also be getting involved, with a special performance by pupils from Ruthin School, Pen Barras, Rhos St, Borthyn and Brynhyfryd being put on to celebrate the best of the Vale’s young talent.

The festival’s finale, a six hour performance of dance and music called Top of Town, is also expected to attract plenty of takers when it takes off in St Peter’s Square next Sunday [July 6]. Classical Clwydians Ruthin Choir are also expected to be taking part this year.

"It’s a privilege to be able to offer Ruthin Choir at our Classical Concert this year. We are looking forward immensely to the event" said Brian Hubble, Festival Chairman.

Tickets for all the events of the Ruthin Festival are available from the town’s library, Siop Elfar, or by telephoning 01824 702703.
