A TALENTED young thespian from Ruthin is taking to the theatre for a second year running for a show to be performed at Edinburgh’s Fringe Festival.
17 year old David Thomas, from Llanbedr DC, saw off more than 2,000 other aspiring actors to clinch a part in a specially written production, Missing Melanie.
"I wasn’t expecting to get in as the audition standards were much higher than last year. I am over the moon to be offered a place for the second year running" the Ruthin School pupil said.
"I had two days of singing, dancing and acting at the auditions in Manchester. It was gruelling but great fun."
David, who recently played the lead in Ruthin School’s production of Queen musical We Will Rock You, will be rehearsing for his latest role at the prestigious Fettes School in Edinburgh, where former Prime Minster Tony Blair was once a pupil.
The youngster, who also trains with Denbigh’s Stage Coach school, is hoping to study drama at college. He hopes to build on last year’s success, when he performed his part in play Force Nine and a Half at festivals in Edinburgh and London.
"These sort of opportunities are the perfect stepping stone to a career in the theatre and will enhance his CV" said Elaine Thomas, Ruthin School’s head of English and Drama.
"David is a very talented young man, self motivated and determined. He has worked very hard for his place and thoroughly deserves his success."
