St Cynhafal's Church
ST Cynhafal's Church, in Llangynhafal, is to be given a new lease of life thanks to a £31,000 grant announced this week to help pay for restoration work.
The church was promised the payout by the Heritage Lottery Fund to help the county council carry out much needed improvements to the historic building.
"We have some beautiful churches and chapels in the Vale of Clwyd which are a great asset to the communities they serve. They are real gems and are one of the many reasons that visitors flock to our area each year," said Clwyd West AM Darren Millar, whose constituency includes the church.
"This is great news for St Cynhafal's. I look forward to visiting the church once the maintenance work has been completed"
The church is believed to be the only one dedicated to St Cynhafal, and is over 600 years old, although the site is known to have been used for religion since the 7th century.
The grant is being used to fund a complete re-rendering of the church’s outer walls, which will cost over £60,000 to complete. Despite also being awarded a £20,000 CADW grant, the church is still £8000 short of its target.
