A LEADING bank played a vital role in ensuring families in need in Prestatyn did not go without over Christmas.
The Kings Pantry Appeal at Calvary Church was given a £2,000 donation from Barclays Bank. The money was used by the church to prepare and distribute food hampers to families and members of the community in need over the festive period.
Barclays community team member Gwyn Pritchard said: “At Barclays we are committed to looking after local communities and we are delighted to support the Kings Pantry. This is a great opportunity for us to help make a real and lasting difference by supporting local families to have a wonderful Christmas.”
The mayor of Prestatyn, Cllr Anne Horobin, who helped with the distribution of the hampers said: “This is a great community effort between Barclays Bank, the town council, Tesco, Calvary Church, local schools and Social Services. This is a commendable gesture and shows what can be achieved when organisations work together.”
Rev John Marsden from Calvary Church said: “We areŠdelighted and very gratefulŠto Barclays Bank for their kind contribution of £2,000 in support ofŠCalvary Church,ŠKings Storehouse ministry which provides food hampers for people who are going through difficulties. “TheŠdonationŠfrom Barclays Bank has given us the opportunity to purchase 60 Christmas hampers from Tesco and we then delivered them to families in time for Christmas. This has brought a lot of seasonal cheer to those who thought that they were facing a difficult Christmas time.”
He thanked Mr Pritchard of Barclays Bank for promoting the cause. This is the third year the bank has donated £2,000. He also commended Tesco who only recently joined the partnership.
The funds come from Barclays Community Investment Programme, which in 2007 donated £52.4 million, or 1% of UK pre-tax profits.
