A LONG awaited new cinema and arts centre will be opening early in the new year.
As general manager of the Scala Cinema and Arts Centre in Prestatyn, Peter McDermott, unveiled the new logo and identity for the facility on December 18, he also confirmed the £3.5m centre would open for business in early 2009 when it will officially become Wales’ first all digital cinema.
The first pictures of the almost completed interiors confirm the facilitywill be a major cultural and entertainment destination for North Wales.
"The Scala has been a challenging and rewarding project for all those involved and it’s very exciting to be able to reveal the new logo and also the pre-launch website at www.scalaprestatyn.co.uk," said Mr McDermott.
The centre which has been funded by the Welsh Assembly Government, Prestatyn Town Council, Denbighshire County Council, The Arts Council for Wales, the Foundation for Sports and the Arts and the UK Film Council has a proud history dating back to 1910 but was closed in 2000.
Following a vigorous campaign to create a new arts centre work formally began in 2007.
The Scala will offer two 150 seat auditoria both with state of the art high definition digital projection systems one of which will also offer live performance space. In addition there will be community rooms available for meetings, training and a café bar. The centre will also offer a media suite available for training and hire.
Mr McDermott is keen to encourage the public to get behind the new centre.
"I hope that people will visit the website and sign up so we can keep them up to date with events as we countdown to opening in 2009," he said.
