Prestatyn man arrested after fatal road accident

A MAN has been arrested and released on bail following the death of a Prestatyn man in an horrendous three-car smash.

David Wares, 22, of Melyd Avenue, Prestatyn, was pronounced dead after the collision with a wall on the A547, shortly before 11.30pm last Tuesday night.

Two other cars were involved in the crash and a 20-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving but released on bail pending further inquiries.

Police, fire service and ambulance crews attended the scene.

Dozens of floral tributes have been laid at the scene, and the Welsh flag at the Graig Park country club where he worked was lowered to half mast.

Prestatyn Mayor Anne Horobin said: “I am absolutely horrified that there has been yet another tragedy in the town.

“I didn’t know David, but as a former Prestatyn High school teacher I know his brother and sister and obviously his parents.

“I truly sympathise with everyone affected by David’s death. The community is in a very deep state of shock.

“I know some of my neighbours heard the crash and went outside to try and help. It is devastating to hear that we have lost another young life.”

A former Prestatyn High School pupil, David was the eldest son of the town’s Central Surgery GP, Dr Neil Wares.

His death is the third accident in the area so far this year.

Amanda Coulton, 20, from Dyserth was killed when the car she was in was hit by a drunk driver, further down the A547 in January.

In July, three-year-old Meg Burgess was killed when a six foot wall collapsed on top of her near her home on Ffordd Penrhwylfa.

North Wales Police Control Inspector Chris Jolley said: “Officers from the roads policing unit are conducting a full investigation and request anyone who witnessed the collision or the driving of the vehicles involved around the time of them to call them on 0845 607 1001 (Welsh), 0845 607 1002 (English) or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.”
