THE seat of local government played host to a smorgasbord of ales last weekend as one of the region’s biggest beer festivals got underway.
Organised by the Denbigh Round Table, the fifth annual beer festival took place in Denbigh Town Hall on Saturday.
With over 35 beers and ciders on offer, all from local brewers, the venue was packed out.
Round Table chairman Daniel Ffrith said: “It was very well attended as usual and there were probably about 600 people there through the course of the day and at one point we were at absolute capacity.”
There was music throughout the day with live bands including Steve Rickard, John Sellars, Spooky Joe and Disco Dave.
Although the night’s proceeds have not yet been totalled up, Daniel believes that the beer festival will have raised at least £5,000, all of which is going to charity.
“This year it’s all going to the bowel cancer unit at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd,” said Daniel. “Our main sponsor is Artisan Blinds and the owner has just recovered from the disease.”
Denbigh Beer Festival was started half a decade ago after Round Table members visited a festival in another town and decided to do their own.
It has been a success every year since.
Daniel added: “The ciders were very popular as always and beers from the Conwy Brewery sold out first.”
