Denbigh school teacher in charity Llyn Brenig trek

Charity walk

A HIGH-SCHOOL teacher from Denbigh who trekked ten miles around one of the Vale’s largest lakes last weekend has raised nearly £300 for charity.

Jenny Montgomery, a behavioural support assistant at Denbigh High School, made the journey around Llyn Brenig on Sunday to raise funds for the Everyman Campaign, which raises funds for research into male cancer.

Jenny, who was joined by friends and family on the walk, said: "My dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer so I really wanted to do something to help raise awareness of male cancers and also contribute money towards the vital research being carried out by Everyman scientists at The Institute of Cancer Research.

Dad is now in remission so I made sure he did the walk too! It was a lot of fun and very rewarding."

According to The Institute of Cancer Research, cases of male cancer have risen dramatically in the UK, with prostate cancer killing one man every hour and testicular cancer now the most common cancer in men aged between 15 and 44.

After Jenny’s father was diagnosed with prostate cancer, she took part in The Big Stride fundraising event, designed to help raise funds for the Everyman Campaign.
