Denbigh woman to hit the small screen

TWO Denbigh women are to star in a new TV series which aims to overcome their countryside fears.

Not In My Nature, which is being broadcast on the BBC on Monday at 8.30pm, sees Welsh nature expert Iolo Williams attempt to get Julie Howaston Broster and Kate Foley raving about the rural parts of the country.

"This may appear a silly excuse, but I definitely think that my lack of interest in nature came due to my fear of spiders!" said Julie, 35, who works as a beauty therapist at her salon on Rhyl Road.

The series, which is also accompanied by a radio show and a page on the BBC Wales website, will see Iolo bring seven Welsh workers face-to-face with some of their deepest fears.

She is no stranger to TV and radio, and has previously appeared on BBC Radio Wales, S4C and shopping channel QVC as a beauty expert.

Denbigh cook Kate Foley, 42, was left unimpressed by the wildlife but says the show has nurtured her love of the outdoors.

"There were a lot of interesting things which I never thought I’d do but I still don’t think I’ve been converted," she said.

Iolo Williams, who will be hosting the series, visited the Vale earlier this month as a guest of honour at the Gardening Show, recently held in Llangollen.

He says the new series marks a big departure from his previous programmes, such as Natur Cymru on S4C.

"Filming for the series has been a totally new experience for me. Not only are the participants on a huge learning curve, but so am I," he said.

"I’m finding out so much more about nature because I’m getting to see things through the eyes of people who haven’t really ever paid much attention to the nature around them."
