A VALE venture that’s proved a hit with film fanatics has scooped two top awards and been nominated for a National Lottery grant.
Denbigh Film Club, who show eclectic cinematic classics from Denbigh Town Hall each month, picked up the prizes at the event at Llangollen Railway Station, presented by Ray Bartley, chairman of Denbighshire County Council.
The group has also been nominated for the semi-finals of The National Lottery Awards 2008, which will see it battle rival lottery-funded groups in a bid to win £2000 and exposure on a prime time BBC show.
"It’s an incredible achievement, especially for a group that’s only been meeting for 18 months." said Vesi Jones, Chair of Denbigh Film Club.
"The Film Club is being run by just a handful of hard-working people but it’s been a great success so far and it’s good to be recognised for the work we’re doing for Denbigh and the wider area. We are a community cinema and do a lot for film fans across the Vale of Clwyd."
The club saw off more than 30 other entrants to claim Highly Commended Wales Volunteer of the Year Award from the Wales Council for Voluntary Action, alongside a certificate from Denbighshire Volunteer Centre.
