A FESTIVAL with a focus on fun is hoping to bring out the best of arts, music and culture when it opens in Denbigh next week.
The Denbigh Midsummer Festival starts on June 19 and will bring four days of delights and displays to the town, and features a star poet among the big names tipped to attend the event.
"We hope that the people of Denbigh and beyond will come and support the Festival as it provides an opportunity to do something different and see what positive and fun things can be achieved in this great town" said Philip Morris, Chairman of the Festival Committee.
One of the big draws to this year’s Denbigh event is poet Ian McMillan, who appeared earlier this month on hit BBC series Have I Got News For You and will be performing poetry and music live at the opening ceremony in the town hall tomorrow night.
A sister show, the Creative Arts Festival, will kick off at Denbigh Community College shortly afterwards and remain open alongside the main Midsummer event throughout the weekend.
Other highlights include a Welsh market and guided walks on Friday, a fun Rugby tournament aimed at the town’s youngsters on Saturday, and relaxation sessions on Sunday.
More information about the Midsummer Festival - the town’s 12th - is available from Denbighshire libraries, Denbigh Leisure Centre and many other shops in the town, as well as on the website at www.visitdenbigh.co.uk. Tickets for individual events will be available during the event from Hall Square.
