Corwen teenager hurt at spot that killed brother

A TEENAGER injured in a car crash which claimed his brother’s life has been involved in another road accident at the same spot.

Anton Dixon, 17, was seriously injured in the crash at a notorious A5 blackspot that killed his older brother Aaron, 19, three days after Christmas.

This week the brothers’ mum spoke of her heartache after Anton was involved in his second smash at the Bonham Bends, which has been the scene of 17 crashes in nine months since Aaron died.

Anton was at his brother’s side when he died and is still recovering from the first crash, with a metal rod in his shattered leg and two metal plates in his hand.

Mum Gail, of Uwch-y-Dre, Corwen, said Anton was “shaken and sick” after the shock of being involved in another accident at the same spot.

“He was travelling with two other lads and they had to slam on their brakes when a Jeep suddenly turned,” she said.

“They clipped its rear and skidded across the road, which was wet again. Luckily nothing was coming the other way.”

Gail wants traffic-calming measures to sort out the road, which locals say is dangerous because it gets waterlogged and causes drivers to skid.

Former Corwen town councillor Mark Thomas supports her call for action.

“We have had 17 accidents since Christmas when Aaron got killed. What is the Welsh Assembly Government doing about it?” he asked.

A spokesman for the Welsh Assembly said economy and transport minister Ieuan Wyn Jones has asked his engineers and officials to prepare a full report on the situation along this stretch of the A5.
