Cerrig Show's location is moved because of storms

A VALE event had to be relocated and residents forced to meet instead in a nearby school hall after storms battered the showground last weekend.

The Cerrig Show, held in Cerrigydrudion on Saturday [September 5] had to abandoned in its outdoor form due to bad weather across the region, with villagers and visitors opting to meet instead in the hall of nearby Cerrigydrudion County Primary School.

"Because of the weather it was a total washout, and a disappointment for visitors and exhibitors" said Brian Roberts, the show’s General Secretary .

"The produce side of the show was relocated to the school hall but the rest of it - the animals, gymkhana and so on- had to be cancelled completely after the rain."

This year’s event is not the first time the show has been affected by bad weather, as the original show was cancelled in the 1870s for similar reasons. The current format, which dates back to 1894, is held annually in the village on the first weekend of each September.

Among the highlights this year were the animals sculpted from vegetables, including the winning entry, pictured here.
