Huge cash boost for Corwen playground

A CHILDREN’S play area in Corwen is set to undergo a complete revamp later this year after it was awarded a grant of over £80,000.

The Corwen War Memorial Park, on Green Lane, has been promised the payout from the National Lottery alongside 12 other Welsh causes as part of a £2.2 million cash injection from the organisation’s People and Places programme.

"Our committee put in the application for the grant, and we’ve got that as well as another £22,000 from Denbighshire County Council" said Corwen councillor Huw Jones.

"We’re hoping to start work on the project next March, and it’ll make a massive difference to the local community, especially the younger children, when it’s finished."

The grant, totalling £81,057 over the course of one year, will be used to reinvigorate the area, and will see all the children’s play equipment replaced and a dedicated picnic area installed. New fencing will also be fitted to help breathe new life into the park.

"Programmes like People and Places are making a difference to the lives of so many people in communities across Wales" said Janet Reed, Big Lottery Fund Wales Committee Member and Chair of the People and Places Committee.

"I’m sure these awards will have a positive impact on the lives of many people in the community and will continue to do so for years to come."

Among the other projects promised for North Wales are a new community centre in Abergele and a new programme to deliver IT training for Anglesey pensioners.
