A QUICK-THINKING mother rescued her family from their burning Bala home earlier this week after an accidental blaze destroyed the property.
Emma Moore rescued her two children from disaster when the family home in Llanuwchllyn was ravaged by flames after her three-year-old son accidentally set fire to a blanket on Sunday [October 5].
“There was massive damage to the property and the roof had come in. There was quite a crowd watching what was going on,” said an eyewitness at the scene.
Ms Moore was too upset to speak about the incident but friends say she is devastated by the destruction to the home. It is understood her partner Kevin was not in the house at the time, and was working in his job as a gamekeeper.
Fire crews from Bala, Dolgellau and Corwen attended with 18 firefighters deployed to tackle the fire, which started at around 11am on Sunday night.
It is believed the fire may have been started accidentally after Emma’s three-year-old son set fire to a blanket, which quickly spread to other items in the home, once the site of Dolhendre Chapel.
“There has been extensive damage to the entire property and the roof has come down” said Fire Officer Gareth Griffiths.
“This could have been worse - no one was injured as the alarm was raised by the working smoke alarm.”
