Denbighshire duo to drive to Cameroon in charity cash mission

Sian Davies and Gareth Davies

AN INTREPID duo are travelling to Cameroon over Christmas to brave a 6000-mile journey as part of an annual rally in Africa.

Sian Davies, of Denbigh and Gareth Rogers, of Rhyl will be leaving from London on December 13, hopefully arriving in Limbe, Cameroon for a celebration party on January 15.

Sian said: "The organisers of the rally are the Adventurists, and this is one of many rallies they organise every year.

"They have three official charities for this rally of which the participants have to chose one to support.

"We have chosen to support Send a Cow, a charity which helps rural communities in different parts of Africa to become self-sufficient through education.

"What makes this journey a little different is the car we will be driving has to be a left-hand drive and cannot be any bigger than a one litre engine!

"The car that will be taking us on this trip is a little Renault 5."

Sian and Gareth will be sharing the drive and are prepared for car trouble in case of emergencies.

Sian said: "We’ll be taking lots of spares in case anything goes wrong.

"At the moment, we think we’ll be somewhere in Senegal for Christmas, and in Ghana for New Year."

Gareth added: "I’m really excited and apprehensive at the same time.

"I drove to Morocco a few years ago, and I am looking forward to getting a little bit further this time."

Sian and Gareth are hoping to raise £1000 for their charity. To make a donation, please visit www.justgiving.com/cymruloons
