Rhyl surgery
WORK has started on a £4.5m super surgery for Rhyl that will provide services for more than 17,000 patients.
Plans to bring primary care services under one roof came after a major shake-up of healthcare in North Wales.
The 1,800sqm West Rhyl Primary Care Centre will house nine GPs from the Clarence House Practice and will include a pharmacy, long-term condition management, community health and social care services.
The town centre development has been designed to deliver the practice’s planned 33% increase in activity and service expansion in the future.
Set to open next summer, the three-storey centre in West Kinmel Street will serve the local population as well as people from Prestatyn and Dyserth and a small number who will travel in from Kinmel Bay and Abergele.
Two other local practices – King’s House and Lakeside – will move into the building in 2013 and 2021 - meaning that eventually almost 80% of people living in the Rhyl area will benefit.
Developers Apollo Capital Projects have been working with the Denbighshire and Conwy Local Health Boards, Clarence House Surgery, which was close to capacity, the North Wales NHS Trust and Denbighshire Council to deliver the £4.5m investment.
It is said to “assist with the regeneration of the immediate area providing land for a new cycle way and general parking improvements.”
Dr Chris Stockport from Clarence House surgery said: “We have spent the last few years working to ensure that our new surgery will provide the best possible environment and facilities for our patients.
“We are delighted now that building on site is commencing, and look forward to moving into our new purpose-built premises in 2010.”
There are 18 consulting/ treatment rooms plus a minor surgery facility as well as accommodation for health visitors and district nurses.
